Normal and anomalous fluctuation relations for Gaussian stochastic dynamics
We study transient work fluctuation relations (FRs) for Gaussian stochastic systems generating anomalous diffusion. For this purpose we use a Langevin approach by employing two different types of additive noise: (i) internal noise where the fluctuation–dissipation relation of the second kind (FDR II) holds, and (ii) external noise without FDR II. For internal noise we demonstrate that the exist...
متن کاملGaussian fluctuation in random matrices.
Let N(L) be the number of eigenvalues, in an interval of length L, of a matrix chosen at random from the Gaussian Orthogonal, Unitary or Symplectic ensembles of N by N matrices, in the limit N → ∞. We prove that [N(L) − 〈N(L)〉]/√logL has a Gaussian distribution when L → ∞. This theorem, which requires control of all the higher moments of the distribution, elucidates numerical and exact results ...
متن کاملNon-Gaussian distribution in random advection dynamics.
Simulations of vortex tube dynamics reveal that the non-Gaussian nature of turbulent fluctuation originates in the effect of random advection. A similar non-Gaussian distribution is found numerically in a simplified statistical model of random advection. An analytical solution is obtained in the mean-field case.
متن کاملNon-Gaussian Signatures in the Temperature Fluctuation Observed by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe
We present results from a test for the Gaussianity of the whole sky sub-degree scale CMB temperature anisotropy measured by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP). We calculate the genus from the foreground-subtracted and Kp0-masked WMAP maps and measure the genus shift parameters defined at negative and positive threshold levels (∆ν− and ∆ν+) and the asymmetry parameter (∆g) to quanti...
متن کاملAn explicit example with non-Gaussian probability distribution for nontrivial scalar mean and fluctuation
Recently, one of the authors, studying a model for turbulent diffusion involving a large-scale velocity field rapidly fluctuating in time, rigorously demonstrated intermittency in a diffusing scalar field by exhibiting broader than Gaussian tails in the scalar PDF. Here, we explore this model further with exact formulas within the context of general initial data possessing both a mean and a flu...
